Advisory

Strategic advisory for the next move — and what not to do

File-level clarity for Canadian corporations when advice has to exist on paper before a position is treated as real.

When owners book this

Options exist on paper, but you’re not sure which ones your documents can support. Ownership or extraction has drifted from how the company is described. You want someone to say what not to file, sign, or volunteer until the record is clean.

If CRA already sent a letter, proposal, or assessment, start at CRA representation (or Notice of Objection). If cash or creditors are forcing a reset, see recovery & restructuring.

What you walk away with

A plain-language frame of the problem. A short option map with trade-offs. A paperwork gate — what must exist before a position is treated as settled. A near-term do / don’t list. And a clear handoff into tax planning, structuring, CRA work, or recovery when that’s where the situation belongs.

We don’t sell certainty about results we can’t control. Advice that dies in an unread memo isn’t useful either — say if you need operating follow-through so the sequence actually gets executed.

Advisory vs tax planning

Tax planning focuses on timing, vehicle choice, and extraction you can defend on paper — see corporate tax planning. Advisory is broader sequencing, including when not to move. They often run together once the path is clear. Clean entity work without a strategy scramble belongs on creation & structuring.

This lane is for owner-managers who can still choose the order of work. It is not a generic strategy offsite, not insolvency advice, not a substitute for counsel when the situation needs counsel, and not personal tax prep as a lead offer.
Is this “business consulting”?

Operating support around tax and structure work attaches here when advice would otherwise stall. It isn’t a separate hype product — mention it in the consult note if you need hands-on follow-through.

What belongs in the first note?

The decision or pressure point, any hard date, and whether CRA or creditors are already involved. Skip ledgers and identifier dumps until engaged.

Will you tell me what to avoid?

Yes. That’s half the point — a clear do / don’t sequence grounded in what the record can support.
